How long will it take me to lose weight?

A lot depends on you, exercising 6 times a week you will lose faster than 3 times a week. Eating habits and age factors are also important. However the average woman will notice her clothes feeling looser within two weeks. Lose 5 pounds in 4 weeks and lose a full dress size in 8 weeks.

Why are "hydraulic" exercise machines so effective?

The key to permanent weight loss is strength training. Curves' patented hydraulic resistance-based equipment allows you to perform three sets of strength training exercises on all major muscle groups while you sustain your target heart rate. Why is this fitness program appropriate for me?

You start at a level of intensity and pace that is appropriate for your current level of fitness. This is a program that even the least athletic lady can follow. There are no weight stacks to change, no exacting techniques to master or complex routines to memorize.

How much time will I have to spend exercising?

Curves for Women has developed a program that takes the time factor of today's woman into account. Achieving optimal health and weight loss can be accomplished in 30 minutes per session in a comfortable environment.

How does the Curves Program work?

During the Curves Workout, you will move to a new exercise station every 35 seconds and check your heart rate every eight minutes. This will allow you to adjust the intensity of your exercise and sustain your "target heart rate." Curves' combination of strength training with aerobic recovery is key to successful and permanent weight loss.

Why is it so important to eat proteins on the Curves program?

When you are in a fat-burning mode, you will find that protein meals satisfy you longer and that you experience hunger less often. This contributes to the success of high-protein diets. You usually end up eating fewer calories because you're not hungry.

Additionally, you need proteins to build lean muscle mass in your body. Adding muscle will help you raise your metabolism and will keep weight off.

Why is Curves target heart rate only 50 - 75 and others want you to work out in the 80's?
We base the target heart rage on a woman's age, health issues, and resting heart rate. Keeping your heart rate in the 80's is good if you are an athlete in training. When you work out at that high of a heart rate, for the average woman, you run the risks of creating other health issues.

Why don't you do jumping jacks and leg lifts on the recovery boards?
That's why they are called recovery boards, to recover on. They are designed to maintain your heart rate not to increase it. You should be working as hard as possible on the strength stations to work the muscles and recovering on the boards so you can go hard again on the next strength station.

Why don't your machines have adjustments on it to change resistance?
The machines are already designed to give you the resistance you need according to the speed at which you use them. Speed increases Resistance. The faster and harder you go on the machine the more resistance it will give you. Likewise the slower you go the less resistance. They are designed that way so that women of all ages and physical fitness can use them according to their individual fitness. No one else is controlling that for you.

Why Curves does not offer daycare?
We love children but this is your time. We encourage women to make a lifestyle change by working out 3 times a week and they should be able to do that without having kids running around. They can associate with other women and have a little relaxation. It's only about an hour out of their day and they can certainly find someone to watch them for that amount of time.
